Our Intention
with The Lofts of Uptown on Columbia
We know that if you have become intrigued by Uptown On Columbia then you
are someone different, not the average home buyer. Your interests are
cutting edge and sophisticated. You appreciate what it means for your
sensitivity to be within a stroll of sidewalk cafe society.
We understand
that you appreciate what writing in Center 3 in 1987 an anonymous
author asks, Can we capture what is real and poignant about ourselves
and our surroundings and express it in built form both for ourselves and
for future generations? To live in a place rather than merely reside there
requires a dynamic symbiotic gestalt between the living being and the
built environment between the human being and the building.
Within the
large warehouse space, working with and not against it, we have found
seven unique living spaces. The first condo is already sold and occupied.
Three more are ready, two are being built and one is still being conceptualized.
The front
door entrances with the common elements of house numbers, mailboxes, doorbells,
lights and entry doors bring a unity to the exterior of the building.
The unity of the interiors is in their common dedication to individuality.
All seven
lofts are two-stories, in traditional loft styling use the natural materials
originally present in the building as portions of the decor and four have
nearly the same square footage. However you will not find cookie cutter,
assembly line, look-alike units. We know that you are looking for your
home, not track-housing or an apartment. We understand this. Each of the
seven condo loft residences is conceived anew. Individual floor plans,
themes and interior finishes make each loft a singular unique custom residence.

Design,
elements and process . . . Individual floor plans, themes and interior
finishes make each loft a singular unique custom residence. We spend a
great deal of design time creating each living space. We spend time with
the raw space letting a theme emerge. The theme then is used to point the
way in selecting the color palette and various materials. We pay special
attention to light, both natural and artificial. Note the use of interior
openings and glazing to pass light into the core.Careful selection of
lighting for individual areas has added light as an interior design element
of our lofts. You will find treatments, finishes and materials in our
lofts that you will not find anywhere else locally. Our organic design
process makes each loft unique, unified and as much a work of art as it
is a special place to live.

Manhattan Evening
Enter the home from the enclosed foyer with its black ceramic tile walls.
The living-dining room gleams in silvers, blacks and whites and is set
off by the two black and silver chandeliers. Casually chic, almost stately
comes to mind. The open kitchen features stainless steel cabinetry, counter
tops and three bay sink accented by jet black appliances. For anyone who
loves to cook and to entertain this is the kitchen- simple, easy to work
in and elegant all at once. Next is the great room-ready for a large screen
high definition television, pool table, or informal study. Also on the
first floor is additional storage, stack washer dryer and a half bath.Through
the rear door is the heated garage. Upstairs the maple floors reflect
the natural light from the large north and south windows. The entire second
floor is dedicated to your personal privacy. The stairs and hallway are
screened by low walls and a large custom made panel of antique art glass
tiles. The bath is the core of the second floor. It features a large ceramic
tiled walk-in shower, custom wood vanity and medicine cabinetry and a
gossamer stainless steel chandelier. Flowing around the bath is the private
space-walk-in closet, sleeping area and home office/studio/lounge. Off
of the second floor is the large private roof top deck.

Mediterranean
Summer
Sharing an entry foyer with Manhattan Evening, the front door to Mediterranean
Summer opens into an expansive space using sun color hues. The walls are
decorated with ceramic tile accents suggestively whispering of columns
and old places. These tile accents carry throughout the entire first floor.
The floor is custom designed- a crystal amber epoxy with brass shavings
in suspension laid over shot-blasted concrete. These finishes bring an
organic unity and openness to this level. You flow from the large living
room into the kitchen with its maple cabinets and black appliances.Adjacent
is the laundry with side by side washer/dryer. Don't miss the recessed
rope accent lighting in the ceiling. The large half bath is next to and
across from the rear coat closet and adjacent to the rear door leading
to the heated garage. The rails on the stairs to the second floor came
from a Victorian mansion in Galesburg Illinois. The same sun hews from
the first floor warm the large loft bedroom suite. Originally the entire
second floor of this building had hardwood maple flooring. Rough use destroyed
much of it. The second floor is reclaimed 100 year old hardwood flooring
taken from all over the building. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower
with ceramic tile accents. The mirror over the custom vanity is surmounted
with a restored gable pediment salvaged from a Queen Anne cottage in Boston.
The 320 square feet bedroom has an adjoining 8'x5' walk-in closet. Off
of the second floor is the large private roof top deck.

Sage Harbor
The front entry is from the foyer shared with 519 N. Hickory. You enter
into the great hall; more than 480 square feet. Your eyes first take in
the soothing shades of soft greens which welcome you to your home harbor.
The colors play across the ceiling, in the tiles on the floor at the entrance
and on the west wall, and in the custom designed floor. Directly across
from the entrance is the stairway to the second floor. It also has railings
from the Victorian mansion in Galesburg. Accentuating the height of the
room is a vertical white column of light. This is cutting edge technology
using a LED and a solid acrylic rod. Overhead is a large medallion salvaged
from the ceiling of a demolished church in Rantoul.Centered in it is a
stainless steel designer fan and light. As you move into the eat-in kitchen
the mood changes; the ceiling and floor bounce bright light and color
accenting the rich wood tones of the cabinetry. Here also is the laundry
and the half bath. The back door gives you direct access to your parking
space in the secured heated garage. The second floor bedroom suite includes
a spacious full bath.It features a 48" stainless steel vanity with
a vessel sink, a ceramic tile floor and a large 5' walk-in shower.The
300 plus square feet bedroom floor is hardwood maple outlined along the
walls with 12"x12" basket weave ceramic tile. Directly across
from the bathroom is the door to the large private roof top deck.

City Lights
This is a celebration of light, both nature's and the city's. Windows
pour light into both floors. Light will reflect off the special wall paint
and the pearl tile floors in the living room. In the kitchen and full
bath the floor will be pearlescent ceramic tile. Inset in the west wall
is a panel of doors taken from an arts-n-crafts mansion recently demolished
in St. Louis. As you mount the stairs to the second floor there will be
an 8' newel post that graced the grand central staircase of the Dallenbach
mansion that stood on the corner of Park and State in Champaign. Wrapping
around with the stairs is the kitchen on the east end of the first floor.A
half bath de-marks between the kitchen and the living room. The second
floor is one large bedroom with a full bath graced with a marble sink
that came from the bridal suite of a long gone Philadelphia hotel. Also
in the full bath is a large custom built shower. The entire north wall
of the bedroom is closet. The door on the west wall leads onto a private
roofed deck.
