AROMA
CAFE
-
from the News Gazette Online - Aroma Cafe,
just opened April 1. Aroma Cafe
is differentiating itself with a Latin theme in decor, music and menu.
The Wellses, both of whom formerly worked in
the technology industry, decorated Aroma Cafe in bright blues and yellows,
and added a cozy fireplace and an outdoor patio in back. They also added
a mural with a scene from Puerto Plata, the Dominican
Republic town where Lissette Wells once lived, and they're selling cigars-though
more for the Latin flair it lends than for actual use inside their nonsmoking
establishment. The Wellses said they intended to be mostly a coffeehouse serving
food at lunchtime, but they're already planning to expand the food menu
in the evenings to accommodate customer demand. They serve, in addition
to pastries, bagels, coffees and other beverages, an assortment of wrap
sandwiches on flat bread, classic Cuban sandwiches and salads. And,
in keeping with Lissette Wells' heritage, their menu also offers such items
as cafe con leche, a sweetened coffee with milk
served with bread on the side for dunking, and cafecito,
a shot of sweetened espresso.

RAIL- from the Equinox web site - The Brass Rail
is a friendly, small club. No stage. Instruments are set up
at one end of the bar on the floor. Keeps the band down close to
the crowd, unlike when they're up on a higher stage. Makes for an
interesting show where everyone gets a feeling of being right in there
with the band.

COWBOY
MONKEY- from The Buzz -The interior design of Cowboy Monkey is more sophisticated than the
Pig, yet it still has a casual feel, and the new sound system rocks, Nan
Holda, freelance journalist and founder of the Champaign Area
Roots Music Association (CARMA) said. I
think the owners did a great job of upgrading the place while creating
a laid-back atmosphere that is consistent with the old venue.Ê The atmosphere was filled with excitement and
energy, as though those inside knew that they were a part of something
special; a rebirth of the musical spirit that was lost when the Blind
Pig closed. The Blind Pig was a favorite nightspot in town and when it
closed we really experienced the loss, said Jenny Southlynn,
Arts and Entertainment editor of the now defunct CU Cityview
and the soon to be published, The Paper. "The Cowboy Monkey was definitely
happening. It was The Pig only cleaner and better. The place was crowed
with a whole range of people from old timers like myself
to the young and the beautiful.Ó

PO
BOYS - from
the site, Railroad.net - Hot Times on the High Iron - Today, We Gotta Eat - One of my favorites
is Po Boys. It is only open Fridays and Saturdays. They have
a very small menu but it is outstanding barbeque including excellent ribs.
I always choose the hot sauce which, like their others, is home made.
It generally has a great kick to it.
